Friday Art: landscapes by David Hockney

Just came back from visiting one of my best girlfriends and art-buddies, and a great exhibition in Cologne -  " A bigger picture" by british artist David Hockney -  Landscapes in bold colors and textures he has painted mostly within the last 10 years. I have always been a big fan of his work and found it amazing, how young and energetic he still is with 74, embracing new ideas and media to work with.

Quite a number of artwork were created by him on his i-pad and then printed on big paper sheets and put together - like the first image i posted here.  This technique allows him to work very fast and spontaneous, and he uses it with masterly skill. I would never have thought that digital prints could have almost the same impact as oil-paintings - but they did in this case. And i really want to try this myself - ha, i need an i-pad!

I also visited the current exibition with paintings by my friend, Sabina. These i'll show you another time. Meanwhile, all this was really a feast for the eyes and i will digest it over the weekend, reveling in bright greens, pinks, oranges, blues and purples. Hope you're having a fabulous time lovelies - am sending you COLORS and LOVE!

  1. My Sweet Martina, It seems that you had a wonderful time there :) Lovely artwork and introduction! And I absolutely love that first image you posted...Ooo that pink-purple!!!! Wish you a nice and relaxing weekend!

    Big Hugs <3

  2. Beautiful pieces you shared. I've been seeing more artists create things on their i-pads--so amazing! I still don't have an i-pad myself, but when I ever get one, I'd love to do some digital creating!

  3. Hi Martina,

Looks like a wonderful Exhibition and how neat that some of the paintings were done on his ipad. I love all the gorgeous colours.

    Happy weekend

  4. YOU ARE GREAT. You and Irina both show me the possibilities of COLOR, something as you know, has never been one of my strengths! TO SEE HOW THIS MAN CREATED HIS WORK is mind-boggling my dear, but the mind has so much capacity, it is up to us to use it to the best of our willingness and ability while we can!!! THANK YOU for this marvelous way to start my Saturday! Anita

  5. Wowwwww !!...beautiful.....enjoy a happy weekend

  6. Wowwwww !!...beautiful.....enjoy a happy weekend

  7. Indeed my dear, this is truly an inspiration here; at 74 he is still courageous to explore....that is a huge lesson for me today.

THANK YOU FOR COMING BY AGAIN! I am working on my next post with new cards for my Etsy shop...not a lot, but the three new cards I have it takes days to draw, format and then drive to the printers, take the photos and load up in the computer! I all is time consuming.

You are welcomed to come and browse later if you wish! Enjoy your evening, Anita

  8. Hi Martina...I love David Hockney too!...In fact, I was watching a programme about him just a few nights ago and he was out and about working on his i-pad...I love the fact that he is still so creative and exploring new ways of working!
    Happy Sunday,
    Susan x

  11. Martina my dear! I TOO am sitting here with COCONUT/CHOCOLATE tea and surfing the blogs and enjoying seeing that YOU came by! YES...COLOR and LOVE is in the air, always! Oh it is so cold, but our temps are warming up just a little bit.

Today is the perfect day to do some laundry, clean up and get ready for the rest of the week while it is actually now FREEZING RAIN outside!

    Be well! Anita

  12. Hockney is one of my greatest inspirations. I love how he has embraced modern technology with his iPad drawings. Thanks for sharing!

  13. Thank you for this post Martina, very inspiring! I love the idea of enlarging and printing images to display art! Did you try the Bamboo Create Pen Tablet? My son uses it for drawing and painting and he likes it a lot! Hope you have a wonderful week, xo....

  14. These are lovely...what talent he has and what a unique idea! You do need an i-pad!
Happy Monday to you my friend. xoxox
