Dearest friends around the blogsphere, i hope you're having warm and vibrant holidays, filled to the brim with all the things, that make your heart smile!  See you back soon and keep sparkling!

Autumn carries more colors in its pockets than all the other seasons.

Dear friends, it's been a long while since my last post. As time flies and my days are very full at the moment, i decided to unable comments for now. Know that i think of you and miss you - and appreciate your kind visit very much.
I've been inspired by Octobers vibrant palette and have worked on a series of new paintings with abstract botanical impressions. The picture above gives a glimpse of Indian Summer in my studio, which is still in full swing and will be celebrated in style here soon.
I hope November is warm and cozy on your end, and you enjoy the golden leaves flying in the air as much as i do!

Princess Laya goes fashion

March is moving along swiftly, serving us little "Amuse Gueules" in the shape of crocuses and daisies in preparation for the big spring celebration, along with some sparkling sunshine - Ahhhh!

Are you thinking spring wardrobe yet? I find myself browsing the spring trends and fell in love with these glamorous headphones for the modern princess by Dolce & Gabbana, since a few years my favorite fashion inspiration. They are actually from the fall collection, as fashion is always moving a few steps ahead of us. Wouldn't it be fun to go shopping with a pair of these on your ears?

Hope you're having a lovely weekend. Take it easy my lovelies and keep warms, as the transition from winter to spring can be a tricky time - and covering your ears can be a good thing!

Color Transition: From Summer to Fall

Recently i was asked by Abbey Jones from Julep to take part in a blog challenge - to  help you transition from your favorite summer brights into some beautiful fall shades. Inspired by flamboyant dahlias i bought on the farmers market where i live, i chose to turn a bright scarlet red of summer into a warmer, slightly darker cardinal red - that goes nicely not only with classic black, but with all other colors that might inspire your fall wardrobe - from golden yellows over berry purples, soft browns and greens to misty grey.

This fall asks women to go easy and let their hair down, which is fine for me. Oversized sweaters, loose pants, comfy shoes are all on the  radar of fashion. To glam it up a notch, try an oversized Diva pair of shades and some extra delightful lip and nail color.

The red and purple outfit shown here are by one of my have designers, Paul Smith.

Especially on weekends, i enjoy pampering myself a little more and paint my nails. mostly i use a bright statement color for my toenails, and a light pink, natural mother of pearl shade for my hands.  What is your favorite color, when it comes to your nails?

Since i was also asked, ti challenge one of my blogfriends, to be part in this theme, i tag the lovely Kizzy - have fun doll!

Monday Love: Scarlet Pink!

Roses are red my love!

Some bits of vibrant color from my weekend - some of my red paintings i got back from a recent exhibition, lots of roses in different shades of red, some from out of our garden, some given to me as a present by my lovely painter friend Sabina Wörner, who shares my love for Scarlet & Pink.

Scarlet Pink is also the name of a fabulous new magazine, celebrating artists and creative living. Some of my dearest blogfriends like Anita and Victoria are amongst their contributors, and i'm so exited to be one of the featured artists for the upcoming summer issue.
Will keep you posted when it gets published.

Have a super start to your week my lovelies, my your days be sprinkled in rose petals and garnished with laughter!

P.S.: Regarding the riddle in my dog poster: The dog not listed under it's real name was the Chinese crested dog. i put it under the name of !Quastl" - because of the shape of it's tail ;)

Fall queen

A new painting from a red series i did, mixed-media on canvas. I called this one "Fall Queen", because it captures the royal abundance and yet the simple quietness of this time of year and also of a certain time of life ...
Cheers to a super new week - let's celebrate octobers golden grapes and silver cobwebs - am grateful for your friendship and support

Oh happy plates - food styling project

Tomatoe goes art
I had some fun in my studio lately, playing with my camera and gorgeous red tomatoes - one of my fave summer food.  With these pix, i'm participating in the "Oh hapy plates" food styling project by lovely Ald, from Al dente gourmet, to learn more about styling food and making it look even better in your photos.

You see, i'm quite a foodie and love to combine my painting skills wiih my love for yummy treats. This also comes in handy when it comes to create recipe pages for my magazine, KidsLife.  I think, these cherry tomatoes doa great job in juicing up my art books, what do you think?
Have a super cool and easy weekend  lovelies!

Friday art: Shoes for you!

Put on your red shoes ...
... and dance the blues! Shoes are such nice little objects of desire - they express personality and style. The shape of beautiful shoes always inspires me, and time after time i get back to painting some of them. Especially those i can't wear. High-heeled Stilettos are so chic - but mostly to painful to dance in - what a pity!

I have 3 more shoe paintings at work now and hope to get on with them over the weekend. Keep warm and cozy lovelies (for those who reside in winterland, like me!)  A beautiful shade of red always helps me to feel warmer imediately - on canvas, on bedsheets, on something to wear - give it a try!

Red Meditation

I'm seeing red
Red is a very strong, outgoing colour, normally associated with action, love or aggression. This painting however, shows the meditative side of it, a warm, vibrant, nourishing glow. I read that in Tibet, red is the color that symbolizes our connectedness with the whole. And that reminds me, to look for the quiet place inside, right in the midst of the pre-christmas buzz.

Friday Pretties: Autumn Roses

Autumn Roses

These are from an 2008 series, playing with shapes and ornaments. It's amazing how paintings in vibrant colors can liven up a cool office-spaces and rooms full of computers, printers and the like.
I heard Bill gates uses huge flat monitors instead of paintings on the walls and has various artworks projected, according to the mood of the day. But that can never be the same. The energy is different. We've got to much flickering screens in front of us already and we crave the warmth and living vibrations from a painting we really like - well, at least i do!

Have a warm, creative weekend - and find more pretties here!!

Friday Pretties: Roses

If live sometimes is no bed of roses, why not make it a little nicer by painting ... roses, for example!

This is a painting from last year. I have so many unfinished canvases in my studio right now and hope to find some time to get on with them this weekend. I mean TAKE some time to get on with them. Take some time for myself. Make it a priority. This summer has been so busy so far, and i crave to be more in touch with my art again, make it work, make it flow, feel the magic!

Cherries & Mint

We'll take the cake with the red cherry on top. Navjot Singh Sidhu

Red cherries are irresistible if you see one of them on something good. A bowl of them, freshly picked, looks delicious.
But a HUGE tree of them can be overwhelming. Like the tree we have in our garden. So many cherries up there, we could feed all the birds of the village!
Sometimes, like now, i wish i had more time to revel in making things from what the garden offers, but mostly, we just eat it as it comes.

An exeption was the Mint-Cashew Pesto i made the other day from the abundance of fresh mint growing in our herb-patch. You just blend it with Cashew nuts, extra vergine olive oil and a bit of lemon peel and orange juice. If you're a mint-lover, it tastes great over pasta or in a salad-dressing.

You need:
75 g Cashewnuts
40 g fresh mint leaves
15 g fresh basil leaves
170 ml olive oil extra vergine
grated peel of one lemon or lime
Dash of orange juice
salt & pepper

Mix Cashews, mint and basil leaves, olive-oil and a dash of orange-juice in a blender. Stir in the lemon-peel and salt and pepper to taste. In a tight jar, the pesto keeps in the refrigerator up to 2 months.

Let your art guide you - weekly challenge

Moving hearts. Our heart can smile, love, fly, cry, sing and dance. It's colour may change from day to day, from a pale pink glow to a deep crimson fire and it carries us through all of lives ups and downs. It has a language of it's own that can be translated into poetry, music or painting. A little game of watercolours for our creative thursday.

Poppies are so beautiful - but you cannot pick them and put them into a vase! This painting is called "Poppy girls", and somehow i felt drawn to deep and passionate red. The week's been hot with tension for me, lots of work, difficult things to deal with, hot and damp weather - and red seemed just the colour. Now i feel ready to plunge into deep blue water and relax.
What's your favourite colour at the moment?

Come and get creative with us at art n' sewl - we share our work every thursday.

Let your art guide you - weekly challenge 12

Red flowers - but in a more abstract form was my project for this weeks art challenge. I've started on these a while back and went on in a playful manner, mainly concentrating on the colours and how they enhance others glow.
Now i'm in the mood to continue like this on a bigger canvas - let's see!

Meanwhile i was pondering on - if we see ourselves as a colour - your good friends are those, who make you glow stronger. If you could picture yourself - which colour would you be?

Come and have a look at all entries at art n'sewl, we'd love to see you!

I'm seeing red

Red is so warm and vibrant - and maybe i need warmth on a cold spring day like this! I love making !collages" of paintings and things that inspire me, group things, see how they influence each other. It is raining outside, but hot reds and pinks celebrate the tulips and roses that are about to come!
